How can I help my 6th grader get his ideas onto paper when he can explain everything out loud but freezes at a blank doc?
My son can talk forever about a book or a movie, but when it's time to write a paragraph, he just stares at the blank doc and gets upset. I obviously don't want to write it for him, but he needs some way to start. What helped your middle school writer?
Voice notes helped. He talked into my phone, then listened and pulled out the main points. The page was not blank anymore.
Keep the organizer simple. Claim, reason, example. Too many boxes made my daughter more confused.
First draft means ideas only in our house. If I correct spelling right away, he shuts down before there is anything to edit.
A writing tutor helped because it took me out of the fight. She taught him a repeatable structure and he listened to her better.
