How can you tell reading tutoring is starting to work before the report card or reading level changes? Are there any small signs?
We just started reading tutoring for my 2nd grader, and I’m trying not to check progress every 5 minutes. I know it takes time. For parents who used a reading tutor, what little changes did you notice before test scores improved?
Less guessing was the first sign. My daughter started looking through the whole word instead of yelling a word from the picture.
My son stopped saying I hate reading every night. That was huge. The level had not moved yet but the fight was smaller.
Ask the tutor what exact skill they worked on. A good answer is something like short vowels or blends, not just we read today.
