How can you tell whether an electronics class for an 8-year-old teaches them to understand circuits rather than just follow a kit?
My 8-year-old wants to make things with lights and switches. Some fall classes use impressive-looking kits, but I can't tell whether kids get to change anything or just copy the picture. What would you ask to find a class with a bit of actual figuring things out?
I'd ask what happens after the light turns on. Do they get a new problem to solve, like adding a second switch or making a different design? I want room for a child to make a choice, not just reach the end of the instructions.
Find out what they can explain afterward without the kit in front of them. My kid can build something carefully and still have no idea why it works. I'd ask the teacher how they check understanding without turning it into a test.
