How do you deal with gifted testing without making your kid feel like one test decides if they're smart?
Our district does gifted testing in early elementary, and now parents are talking about prep books. My daughter likes puzzles and reading, so maybe it's worth trying, but I hate the pressure around it. How did you keep it healthy at home?
We called it puzzle practice, not smart kid prep. I told my son the test helps adults pick a classroom, it does not decide who he is.
A little familiarity is fair. I wanted her to know the type of directions, not spend months drilling.
Ask what the gifted program actually is. In one school it was basically extra worksheets. In another it was projects and discussion. The label is not enough.
My kid did not get in the first time and he was ok because we had not made it his identity. He still did chess and library stuff outside school.
