How do you find a martial arts class for a 14-year-old who wants Muay Thai fitness training but isn't comfortable with sparring?
My 14-year-old likes the idea of learning Muay Thai, mainly the movement and pad work. They don't want to get hit or pressured into competing. What wording would you use with a studio to find out whether a non-sparring option is genuinely respected?
I'd say exactly that before booking and ask which parts of the actual class involve partner contact. Then ask what happens if a student declines. I want a clear alternative, not we'll see how confident they feel once they're here.
Let your teen hear the instructor's answer too. I'd want them to feel able to say no directly, rather than relying on a private agreement between the adults that might get forgotten halfway through class.
