How do you teach kids about money without allowance turning into a fight over every chore and snack?
I want my 9 and 12 year old to understand saving, spending, and not just clicking buy now in their heads. We tried allowance, and it turned into arguing about which chores count. What has worked for teaching money in a calm, normal way?
We separated chores from allowance. You help because you live here. Allowance is for practicing money. Extra jobs can earn extra, but basic family stuff is basic family stuff.
Three jars worked for my younger kid, spend, save, give. Seeing the money disappear after a junk purchase taught more than my lecture.
Let the older one plan a small budget. My daughter had to buy snacks for movie night with a set amount. Suddenly prices were very interesting to her.
