I need to ask about something happening in class, but I overthink teacher emails so much. I want to sound respectful and get the real story, not come in hot. What wording do you use when your child reports homework, social, or behavior issues?
I use, my child said this, I know I may not have the full picture, have you noticed anything. That line helps me not sound accusatory.
Keep it short first. If I send a giant emotional email at midnight, it never helps. Ask for a quick call if there is a lot.
Be specific. My child cried over fractions three nights this week is easier to respond to than math is ruining our life.
Draft it, wait, reread. I have deleted many spicy sentences that did not need to exist.
Mention what you tried at home. Teachers like knowing you are working with them, not just dropping the problem off.
