What calming activities work for anxious kids who need to move and are definitely not going to sit still and meditate?
My 7 year old gets worried sometimes, but sitting still with eyes closed is not happening. She needs to move. Are there mindfulness-type activities that use walking, art, yoga, outdoors, anything besides sitting quietly and breathing?
Walking 5 senses works for us. We walk and name things we see, hear, feel. It settles her without making her sit like a statue.
Yoga stories helped my son. Move like a tree, curl like a fox, breathe like cooling soup. It is goofy but it works.
Drawing with quiet music helps my daughter. She is not meditating exactly, but her body slows down and she can talk after.
