What do you do before kindergarten starts if your child hates stiff collars and clothing seams but the school has a dress code?

My 5-year-old keeps pulling at the collar of the school clothes we bought. I don't want the first morning to become a fight over getting dressed, and buying five more versions blindly sounds expensive. What would you ask the school before trying another outfit?

I'd ask which parts are essential and which have flexibility: color, logo, collar, fabric or style. Then explain the actual difficulty. I wouldn't start by assuming the school means one exact shirt if the written rule is broader.

Try a whole outfit at home for an ordinary hour, not two minutes in front of the mirror. We found the waistband was more annoying when my child sat on the floor than when standing for the fitting.

I'd keep one comfortable backup available while you sort it out with school. I don't want the solution to be making my child endure something all day just because we already took the labels off.
