What should a parent do when a child says classmates exclude her but the teacher calls it normal friendship drama?
My 3rd grader says two girls keep telling her she can play only if she does what they say. Teacher says she hasn't seen bullying, just playground drama. I don't want to overreact, but my kid is sad after school. How do you handle this gray area?
Write down exact words and dates for a week. Not to build a court case, just to see if there is a pattern. It helped our teacher take it more seriously.
Teach a script, but also ask for adult eyes at recess. My daughter practiced saying, no thanks I am going to the swings. But the teacher watching helped too.
I think social exclusion can be small looking from outside and huge to the kid. Ask who she does play with, then help grow that friendship.
One kind playdate outside school made the mean group less powerful for us. She needed one safe person.
