What should I check before an 8-year-old tries a sewing class, especially if the children use machines rather than only hand stitching?
My 8-year-old wants to sew clothes for toys and has spotted a fall sewing class. I know almost nothing about sewing machines, so the pictures don't tell me much. What questions would you ask about supervision, beginner projects and what we need to bring?
I'd ask how they introduce the machine, how many children share one, and who is supervising while it's being used. Then I'd ask whether beginners can finish a small project without an adult quietly doing the tricky parts for them.
