What study habits should a 9th grader build early so high school does not become all last minute cramming?
My child is starting 9th grade. Middle school was mostly fine with very little studying, but I know high school can hit differently. I don't want to scare him, but I want some habits early. What should freshman year focus on?
Weekly check in. Sunday, look at grades, missing work, tests, big projects. Not a huge lecture, just a reset.
Teach actual study methods. My son thought reading notes twice was studying. Practice problems and explaining out loud worked better.
Sleep is a study habit too. Phone outside bedroom made a real difference for my daughter.
Encourage asking teachers questions early. My kid waited until panic mode because she thought help meant failure.
Freshman year is good for learning systems, calendar, binder, email, test corrections. Boring stuff but it pays off.
