Where can a high school senior start exploring careers if they're curious about several things but not ready to buy an internship package?
My 17-year-old is interested in design one week, engineering the next, and says they don't know what any of the jobs are actually like. We're not trying to force a major decision this month. What small steps would give them a more realistic picture during senior year?
I'd start with one conversation about an ordinary workday, not a request for an internship. What do you spend time doing, what parts are dull, and what did you misunderstand before starting? My teen finds those questions easier than tell me about your career.
A short project could help narrow the interest before paying for a big experience. I'd let your teen choose something they can finish and show someone working in that area, then ask for feedback on the process rather than a job offer.
I'd be cautious about buying something mainly because it uses the word internship. Ask what the teen will do, who supervises them, and what feedback they'll receive. A clear workshop description would mean more to me than an impressive title.
