Where do you start with language classes for an 11-year-old beginner who doesn't want to sit in a group of much younger kids?
My 11-year-old wants to try Spanish or French this fall. The beginner classes I'm finding seem aimed at little kids, while the older groups already know loads. How do you judge whether a mixed-level class will actually teach them something without making them feel awkward?
Ask for the ages in the actual group, not the ages the website technically accepts. I'd also ask what a brand-new student does while the others are having a conversation they can't understand yet.
A sample lesson would help me more than the level name. Can they teach the same topic with an easy entry point and a harder task, or does the beginner just copy everyone else? I'd want to hear an example.
My kid would rather be the oldest in a small beginner group than lost for an hour with older students. I'd offer both possibilities without making either sound embarrassing, then see which part bothers your child most.
