Which SHSAT practice materials make sense for fall 2026 if my rising eighth grader has mostly been using an older paper workbook?
My 13-year-old has been working through a hand-me-down SHSAT book. Now I'm hearing about another change to the test and wondering whether we're practicing the wrong way. I don't want to bin useful math practice, but what should we check before booking more prep?
NYCPS says the SHSAT becomes computer-adaptive in fall 2026. Its testing page also links the official tutorial and online practice materials. I wouldn't throw away every paper question. I'd ask the tutor to separate useful reading and math practice from instructions about how the actual test works. Those are two different things, and I'd want a clear answer about both.
Before paying, ask them to show you what a student actually practices on screen. Not a screenshot in their sales presentation. My question would be how they teach the interface without letting the technology take over the whole lesson.
