Why does my 8-year-old keep getting placed in the same swimming level, and how do I ask about progress without pushing them ahead?

My 8-year-old likes swimming but is fed up with being put in the same group again. I can see improvement, though I don't really know what I'm looking at. Before booking fall lessons, how do I ask whether the level is right without sounding like I just want a promotion?

Ask which specific skills are keeping them in that level and what they're working toward next. I'd want more than needs confidence. Then you can tell your child something concrete instead of promising they'll move up soon.

I'd ask whether there's a way to work on the missing skill without repeating every part they've already mastered. Staying at the same level and having exactly the same lesson aren't necessarily what you want together.
