Why does my kid play piano just fine for the teacher, but totally flop when I ask them to practice at home?
Piano lessons are fine, and the teacher says my 8 year old is doing well. But practice at home is painful. I remind her, she flops, I correct one note, she gets mad, and then I feel like the music police. How do parents keep practice from turning into another homework fight?
We made practice ridiculously short. Seven minutes after snack. If I tried for 25 minutes it became a battle. Seven minutes daily worked better.
I stopped sitting beside him. I was correcting too much and he hated it. Now he plays the assigned song once and then one song he likes. Not perfect, but he still likes piano.
