Why is my preschooler totally fine at school, then a complete mess the second we get home?
After preschool, my son is just a mess. Teacher says he had a great day, then at home he cries because the cup is wrong or his sock feels weird. I know he's tired, but it feels like I get all the hard stuff. Is this normal, and what do you actually do at 3:30 when everyone is fried?
This was our house too. I stopped asking questions in the car. No how was your day, no who did you play with. Just snack and quiet. He talks later if he wants.
I call it the safe person crash. They hold it together for school and dump it at home. It helped me not take it personally, but we still kept limits, like I wont let you kick me.
A pickup snack changed everything for us. Protein, not just crackers. My daughter was basically hangry and exhausted, which is a terrible combo.
We do shoes off, hands washed, 10 minutes couch time. Same routine every day. If I start negotiating right away, it gets ugly fast.
If it is super intense daily, maybe ask about noise, lunch, nap, or social stress at school. My kid looked fine there but lunchroom noise was draining him.
